Boot Camp Workouts for Home

Boot camp workouts are a great way to shape up by working out and exercising at home.  Using a variety of bodyweight exercises and cardio boot camp workout methods can help you lose weight fast and get in shape in less time.

Many people struggle with their weight and have a hard time getting to the gym to exercise.  If you are one of those people you can try exercising at home with a boot camp workout.  There are a few boot camp workout options like Craig Ballantynes Boot Camp Turbulence Training that I feature on this site.  Craig has 21 boot camp workout programs already laid out which is perfect for someone at home or a fitness trainer that is looking to teach classes and make money.

Craig sent me a copy of his entire system for a review knowing that a former U.S. Marine would be the ultimate test subject.  Boot camp exercises are the way to go and I found the TT Bootcamp to be a great system with plenty of workouts.

Boot Camp Workouts or a Gym Membership?

Back 12 years ago I was a fitness trainer and sales rep at a World Gym right after my days as a Marine.  January was a boot camp workouts or the gymgreat month as we signed hundreds of people to the gym that had hopes and dreams of finally committing in the new year and making changes.

I remember signing up dozens of people that I never saw again.  They were so sure that they would a workout program that they would sign a 2 year commitment.  It sounds great at the time but unless you get yourself motivated to go out to the gym everyday it is going to be tough unless you try a home boot camp workout.

This is why boot camp workouts for home are in my opinion the most effective way for the average person to lose weight, get rid of the stubborn belly fat, and stick to a program.  I honestly felt bad for all the people I would sign up that would either never return or just stick it out for a couple of weeks.  I did my best to get them setup with a great training program and nutritional strategy but I couldn’t go to their home and pick them up to make them get their workout in.

An exercise program at a gym requires a bit of self discipline and a desire that is strong enough to leave your home and step out of your comfort zone to get in your workout.  Boot camp workouts can be done at home making them a good choice for many because I would say less than 10% of new members actually stuck around for the year at the gym let alone the first month.  That is why fitness clubs make so much money on the 1 and 2 year commitments even at low rates.  They know that most people will never come and they will put absolutely no wear and tear on the workout equipment or ask the limited fitness training staff that is available for help.  Once you learn how to do the boot camp exercises you can challenge yourself each day with home boot camp workout programs.

The Solution – Boot Camp Workouts

As a former U.S. Infantry Marine I did have the pleasure of 13 weeks of boot camp training at Paris Island in beautiful South Carolina.  This is back in 1992 before I ever thought about being a fitness trainer and getting in personal training.  Boot camp workouts are full of exercises that challenge every muscle in your body without using weight equipment.  About the only thing that required equipment was pull ups which are great for building upper bodyBoot Camp Workout Pull Ups strength and muscle in the arms.

I lost 30 pounds in 13 weeks with these boot camp workouts.  There was no fancy diet but just lots of bodyweight workouts for conditioning with running and hiking.  Boot camp exercises are a good start for anyone because you can pace yourself.  It doesn’t matter if one person can do 50 pushups in a minute and you can only do 10 because it’s about pushing yourself to the next level and improving.  No matter what level of fitness you are a good boot camp workout program at home can help you lose weight and get fit.

Boot Camp Exercises Raise Metabolism for Fat Loss

Using bodyweight exercises is one of the most challenging ways to exercise and lose weight and this is exactly what boot camp workouts are focused around.  The constant shifting into new positions and putting the body into angles that aren’t the most mechanical efficient is a super way to force more muscles to work and it makes it more difficult for the body to adapt.  The human body is an incredible machine that can adapt to all forms of stimulus and stress.  The problem with typical cardio like stationary bike, treadmill, and even the elliptical machine is that you will get extremely efficient at the exercise.  Calories will be burned, no doubt about that however once the body learns the movement and becomes more efficient it burns less calories.  Boot camp exercises are incredible for fat loss and fitness.

Think of how cars have come a long way in their development so that they can go much further now on less fuel.  The same thing happens in the human body but it does this adaptation on its own. This is also why it is critical to switch up workouts every 3 to 4 weeks for maximum results and people doing traditional cardio hit a hard plateau after a month and can’t figure out why they aren’t losing weight.  To counter this they just add more time and start doing 45 minutes instead of a half hour.  You do not have to do this with boot camp workouts because the exercises can be varied to such a high degree the body never fully adapts.boot camp exercises for women

Adding extra time on your workouts is also a quick way to burn out and depending on your recovery abilities you may start to have an increase in the hormone cortisol which is responsible for adding fat to the waistline.  Ever wonder why it’s so tough to lose belly fat?  Belly fat will hang on even tougher if you simply think you can just add more exercise and cut calories to get rid of it but you don’t have to do that with boot camp workout programs.  The best way to lose belly fat is to keep your calories up and continue to do shorter bursts of exercise that increase the metabolic rate.  This will help keep a better hormone balance for fat burning as well as keeping a healthy and higher metabolic rate.  Ramp up those boot camp exercises and you will see results fast.

Boot Camp Workouts Not a Passing Fad

Bootcamp workouts are not some passing fad. There has finally been a realization that the techniques used in the military to whip guys and girls into shape in a couple months works better than anything else. I spent 13 weeks on Paris Island for Marine Corps Boot Camp so I know what a real boot camp is like. Without lifting a single weight I dropped 30 pounds and was in the best shape of my life. At the time I didn’t realize that a decade later this style of working out would become a phenomenon.

BootCamp Workouts are here to stay because of their simplicity and the results that are achieved. Fads come and go but military style exercises and workouts have stood the test of time getting tens of millions of soldiers in shape in record time. Now this style is being used in the civilian world.

Why are Boot Camp Workouts and Exercises so Effective?

A well structured bootcamp workout burns more calories than running, aerobics, or any other workout. One of the reasons is the constant switching into different positions and working each muscle with bodyweight exercises. When you do something like run, bike, or use the elliptical machine the human body gets super efficient at mechanically doing the movement so that it can use less and less energy to perform it. Adaptation occurs quickly and within a couple weeks those daily runs or jaunts on the elliptical machine just aren’t burning the fat like they used to. Have you ever reach a fat loss plateau after just a couple weeks? That is one of the reasons why.

Simply going from doing pushups to getting yourself off of the ground and doing jumping jacks or squat thrusts requires a lot of energy and uses a lot of muscles constantly switching things up. Boot camp exercises will give you a full body workout and can burn fat fast in only 20-30 minutes a few days a week.

Boot Camp Workouts – Best Fat Loss Workouts

Boot Camp Workouts

Boot camp workouts are becoming very popular everywhere you go.  Fitness boot camps can be found in local fitness centers and even outside in playgrounds and athletic fields or parks.  Anywhere outside where a group of people can get together and exercise is where you can find boot camp workouts these days.  You don’t have to join the Marine Corps like I did  to get a boot camp workout because now there are plenty of structured classes ran by an fitness bootcamp instructors that will put you through a full body workout like no other.

Boot camp workouts are quite different from the traditional aerobics workouts that you may have tried in the past.   The exercises are more demanding working the upper and lower body muscles giving a complete workout and even an abdominal workout without the crunches.  The fast pace of  boot camp workouts allows for a great cardio workout and super fast fat loss using bodyweight exercises.

So why are boot camp workouts catching on so quickly?  I’ll tell you why.  It’s because they are super effective and people see results quicker than they ever have in their life.  The problem with traditional aerobics workouts is that the human body gets very efficient at the movements and through the constant repetition of the same workouts it learns to burn much less energy which means you are burning less fat. It’s nearly impossible for the body to adapt to boot camp style workouts because of the endless exercise selection stressing multiple muscle groups and stabilizers with the rapidly changing pace.

US Marines Live Boot Camp Workouts

I know the power of fat burning boot camp workouts first hand by actually spending 13 weeks on Paris Island training to be a US Marine. We had short bursts of activity through the day that supercharge your metabolism for muscle toning, muscle building, and fat loss.  How do you think they get Marines in shape so quickly?

They definitely do some running during that 13 weeks but the majority of the exercise is in the form of powerful fat burning calisthenics.

10 minute boot camp workouts before dinner

When the drill instructors wanted to really crush us this would be a typical 10 minute session (and we usually just happened to have a spare 10 minutes several times a day which was filled in with these quick workouts).

Jumping Jacks – I said do jumping jacks now, – faster, faster, get your arms up there.  Hey you, you actually have to jump in the air when you do them!”

“No No, I think I actually said push ups, do push ups, get down there now and start pushing the floor!, PUSH, PUSH, PUSH!!!”

After about 15 seconds of pushups -

“Run in place now, get your knees up, I said higher!” RUN RUN RUN

5 seconds later

Squat thrusts, mountain climbers, back to pushups, running in place, etc etc etc. This could go on for anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes and would leave us exhausted. The worst part is we sometimes we were doing it in a sandpit for added comfort and fun. <sarcasm>

Boot Camp Workouts ran by instructors in a fitness center aren’t quite the intensity (or insanity rather) that you may find on Paris Island as you typically won’t find them yelling at you with insults and swearing.  You actually have the benefit of stopping and leaving if you have had enough (no contract to keep you there).

This means you can actually do try boot camp workouts at home by yourself if you want, or get a few friends over and commit to doing them together.  It’s more fun when you have others to help push you.

Structured fitness boot camp classes have a variety of exercises and can be run at different paces for all levels of fitness.  You don’t have to join a boot camp class for this type of exercise routine.  Boot camp workouts can be put together with a variety of bodyweight exercises and you can even include some equipment to spice it up.
