			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I wanted to take a few minutes to put up some information on my friend Craig Ballantyne.  Over the last year I have had a lot of opportunities to work with some of the top online fitness professionals in the world.  Craig Ballantyne has really been a tremendous person to work with.  He has dedicated over a decade to helping people lose weight and improve their fitness levels.</p>
<p>The thing about Craig is he is genuinely a really nice guy and wants to help people.  Over the last year he has helped me get this website going where I have been able to promote his program on <a href="http://www.bootcampexercises.net/fitness-boot-camps-business/">fitness boot camps</a>.   So today&#8217;s article is sort of a biography on Craig Ballantyne so you can find out more about who he is.</p>
<h2>Craig Ballantyne &#8211; Mission to Transform 1 Million Bodies</h2>
<p><img class="alignleft" style="margin: 5px 9px;" src="http://www.precisionnutrition.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/ep_craig_ballantyne_kettlebell_abs.jpg" alt="Craig Ballantyne Kettlebell Workout" width="236" height="310" title="Craig Ballantyne   Master of Fat Loss" />Craig Ballantyne isn’t like any other fitness expert. In fact, he’s the first personal trainer to start a Fat Loss Certification based on the mission of helping 1 Million men and women transform their bodies and their lives. This program is called, “The Turbulence Training Transformation Certification”.</p>
<p>Craig started his career helping clients lose fat while in the mid-1990’s. At that time he was Kinesiology student at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario where he went on to get an advanced Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology.</p>
<p>But more importantly, his journey started all the way back when he was just 4 years old, during a routine car ride home from town with his mom. Little Craig noticed that his mom was upset that day, and asked why she was sad. It turns out his mom had just had another disappointing visit to her weight loss club, and she wasn’t making progress. That day stuck with him for over three decades, and is one of the driving factors behind his goal to help 1 million people transform their bodies and their lives.</p>
<p>Originally, <a href="http://www.craigballantyne.com/">Craig Ballantyne</a> got started with his interest in fitness because he wanted to improve his sports performance. A basic York exercise machine in his basement was enough to keep him going for 6 months, before he traded that for a portable CD player and a membership to the local YMCA. That’s where he started lifting weights, and got stronger, faster, and more athletic for soccer and hockey.</p>
<p>At age 18, Craig was heavy into bodybuilding, and was accepted into McMaster University. While in college, Craig became fascinated with exercise physiology, and in his final year he earned his first personal training certification and started to work with clients for fat loss, and slowly began building a side business working with athletes.</p>
<p>It was a combination of his advanced athlete workouts, everyday fat loss programs, his scientific research, and his reading in the library that led Craig to develop a program called Turbulence Training. The first ever TT article was published in 2001, and about the same time Craig also began writing for Men’s Health magazine.</p>
<p>Since that time Craig has gone on to create over 150 Turbulence Training workouts, and his articles and tips have been published in over a dozen magazines. Plus, Craig has also created a business helping trainers get started online.</p>

<h2>Total Body Training for Muscle Gain and Fat Loss</h2>

<p><img class="alignleft" style="margin: 5px 9px;" src="http://chadwaterbury.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/bio-pic1-217x300.jpg" alt="chad waterbury on total body training" width="114" height="158" title="Total Body Training   Part 1" />Training your whole body, each time you suit up for a workout, is the quickest way for 99% of lifters to gain muscle mass. I can’t make it any simpler than that. Full body training (aka total body training) is as popular as ever because that’s what the vast majority of lifters out there need.</p>
<p>I’ve written countless articles and three books that revolve around full body training: Muscle Revolution, Huge in a Hurry, and <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.bootcampexercises.net/go/Body-of-Fire/">Body of F.I.R.E.</a></span> In fact, if you do a Google search for “total body training” or “full body training,” the T-nation article I wrote a few years back on the subject is the first to come up. (Out of 67,300,000 possible results.)</p>
<p>It’s safe to say that my name is synonymous with the total body training philosophy, yet I still get frequent emails from avid lifters who want to try it but don’t know how to set up an effective plan.</p>
<p>So that’s why I decided to write this post. With the following information you’ll have all the tools you need to make total body training work for you.</p>
<p>First, let me explain why this type of training works so well. There are three reasons: exercise selection, hormonal response, and frequency.</p>
<p>Exercise Selection: when you train everything in one workout you must be wise with the exercises you choose. Of all the variables that make or break your muscle-gaining efforts, exercise selection is number one. Any body part split can be effective if it’s comprised of compound exercises. However, when you target specific muscle groups with body part split training you invariably do a bunch of isolation exercises that have little to no impact on adding muscle to your frame. With full body training, there’s no time to mess with concentration curls, kickbacks, and a host of other sub-par exercises. By default, total body training steers you to compound exercises that give you the most bang for your buck.</p>
<p>Hormonal Response: three of the most important hormones for building muscle are testosterone, insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), and growth hormone. Research shows that growth hormone will increase after an intense bout of exercise. And when growth hormone increases it signals the body to produce more IGF-1, a powerful anabolic hormone. Research also shows that working the largest muscle groups results in the highest output of growth hormone. A full body workout creates an intense demand for your body to up-regulate anabolic hormones &#8211; significantly higher than workouts that only work a few muscle groups (eg, arms and shoulders).</p>
<p>Through research, it’s been shown that the amount of muscle mass stimulated in a workout is proportionate to the amount of testosterone that’s released. Put simply, workouts that stimulate the most muscles produce the most testosterone. I’ll concede that the relationship between strength training and the impact it has on testosterone is still a little fuzzy, but my empirical data (and common sense) tells us that full body workouts augment testosterone better than a day of arm training.</p>
<p>Frequency: no one would argue against the principle that training a muscle group more often results in faster muscle gains (provided you can recover between the workouts). With full body training, each of the primary muscle groups are stimulated at least three times per week, as opposed to a body part split that only hits everything once per week (yes, there’s some carryover between a chest/back and arms/shoulders workouts, but you get the point). Make no mistake about it: training more often is the key to building muscle fast.</p>
<p>However, you can’t just train everything three times per week and recover from those workouts unless you follow these steps.</p>
<h2>Total Body Training Workout</h2>
<h4><strong>Step #1:</strong> Start with three exercises in one workout</h4>
<p>One of the problems lifters run into when they embark on a total body training plan is they try to do too many exercises in one workout. For a workout to be full body, it only has to consist of an upper body pull, an upper body push, and a squat, deadlift or lunge variation. Here are two examples of a full body workout:</p>

<p>As you can see, a full body workout can consist of single-limb exercises, too. Full body training is not just about bent-over rows, push presses, and squats. There are countless exercise variations you can use in the workouts. Later on I’ll tell you how to add more exercises to a full body workout in order to target lagging muscle groups. But for the first few weeks, start with three exercises per workout to get your body accustomed to this type of training.</p>
<h4><strong>Step #2:</strong> Perform a different exercise for each workout throughout the week.</h4>
<p>This is where lifters often get tripped up. If you try to do a full body workout that consists of the chin-up/dip/deadlift circuit three times per week you’ll get overtrained in no time. Each workout throughout the week must consist of different variations of an upper body pull, upper body push, and squat, deadlift or lunge variation. Here’s a sample weekly workout plan.</p>

<p>Wednesday<br />
1A One-arm row<br />
1B One-arm shoulder press<br />
1C Reverse lunge</p>
<p>Friday<br />
1A Pull-up with a narrow grip<br />

1C Front squat</p>
<p>Now you have a weekly workout plan that consists of different exercises in each workout. Repeat this plan for 6 weeks, and then pick new exercises. The exercises for your next 6-week phase don’t have to be drastically different. Simply switching from dumbbells to a barbell or kettlebells will do the trick. For example, you could do the front squat with a barbell for 6 weeks, and then do a front squat while holding two kettlebells for the next 6 weeks. Or you could do a completely different exercise. It’s up to you and the equipment that’s available.</p>
<h4><strong>Step #3:</strong> Use a different rep scheme with each workout throughout the week.</h4>
<p>Full body workouts are demanding and they’ll push your limits of recovery if you’re not used to them. Therefore, one simple trick to help your body recover is to use a different number of reps per set in each workout. This, by the way, is just another way of telling you to vary the load throughout the week. You can’t use the same weight for a set of 10 as you use for a set of 3 reps. This is a good thing since different loads have a different impact on your nervous system. It’s easier for your nervous system to recover from three different loads throughout the week than it is for a constant load, especially if it’s heavy.</p>
<p>So let’s build on the sample full body training plan we already have and add in the set/rep parameters.</p>
<p>Monday<br />

<p>Now you have a weekly plan that consists of different exercises and different loads (reps) in each workout throughout the week. This is how to make total body training work for natural guys who have a limited capacity to recover. I’ve never worked with a client who couldn’t recover from the above program, provided their nutrition and sleep are in order.</p>
<p>Here’s another trick if you’re really limited by the number of exercises you can do. Start by setting up a weekly plan that consists of the exercises that suit your available equipment. Use the same set/rep parameters I listed above. Do that plan for 6 weeks. Then, when the 6 weeks are up you can alter the weekly plan by simply moving around the set/rep parameters from one workout to another. Here’s what I mean.</p>

<p>Now you have a whole new program to do for another 6 weeks while using the same exercises you did in the first phase.</p>

<h2>Five Fat Burning Workout Tips</h2>

<p>If you want to squeeze even more fat burning workout results out of the already amazing Turbulence Training workouts, here are 5 cool workout<br />
tips that will super-charge your fat burning success.</p>
<h3><strong>1) Use the TRIPLE set method</strong> for an extreme fat burning workout</h3>
<p>Try the triple shoulder set (rear-delt, side raise, and front raise), or db incline curls, standing curls, and hammer curls, or<br />
db 1-arm tricep extension, db lying 2-arm ext, close grip pushup.</p>
<h3><strong>2) Fat burning workout doing the Superset Switch-up</strong></h3>
<p>If you are doing supersets, switch to doing all the exercises in a circuit. you&#8217;ll use lighter weights (slightly), but possibly get<br />
your workout done faster. A great change of pace without sacrificing results.<strong><br />
</strong></p>
<h3><strong>3) Use the Russian secret of &#8220;Iso pauses&#8221;</strong> in your next fat burning workout</h3>
<p>Great for increasing the difficulty of many exercises, from pushups to squats to pullups. So you could stop halfway down the pushup and<br />
hold for 3-5 seconds to make it harder. Or hold the top of the pullup for 2 seconds. That can make a huge difference in response<br />
from exercises you are using regularly. <strong> </strong></p>

<h3><strong>4) Add beach-body sculpting shoulder and arm exercises to the end of your TT Workouts </strong></h3>
<p>A lot of tt readers who have a little extra time for more workouts want to add in a bit more arm or shoulder training. Here&#8217;s an awesome<br />
tri-set to top off your beach body:</p>
<p>A) 1-Arm DB Shoulder Presses &#8211; 8 reps<br />
B) DB Lying Triceps Extensions &#8211; 10 reps<br />
C) DB Incline Curls &#8211; 12 reps</p>
<p>Rest 1 minute and repeat two more times for maximum results.</p>
<h3><strong>5) Before the fat burning workout, do KB swings or intervals</strong></h3>
<p>I don&#8217;t like to do this a lot, but here&#8217;s a little trick we can use to make our workouts seem harder in terms of conditioning. Instead<br />
of leaving all of the intervals to the end, we&#8217;ll do half of the interval training or kettlebell swings at the start of the workout<br />
to increase breathing and heart rate. This will make the rest of the workout feel harder, but you might have to drop your strength<br />
levels. So use sparingly during your fat burning workouts.</p>

<p>Chad Waterbury has proven to have some of the most effective <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a href="http://www.bootcampexercises.net/go/Body-of-Fire/">full body cardio workouts</a></strong></span> I&#8217;ve ever done.  I started following his methods back a couple years ago when he came onto the training scene and I was very impressed.  There seems to be fewer and fewer people that truly innovate and take things to the next level.  Chad Waterbury is one of those guys that is a true innovator and I have tried and tested his workouts. If you know me by now, you know I&#8217;ve tried just about everything in the last 25 years of training and have always found full body and <a href="http://www.bootcampexercises.net/bodyweightexercises/">bodyweight exercises</a> to be the most effective.  Here&#8217;s a quick taste of what he has to offer.  You&#8217;ll be seeing a lot more of him in the coming years.</p>
<h1>Full Body Cardio Workouts &#8211; Fast Way to Burn Fat</h1>

<p>In order to melt body fat, you can’t do things halfway. When your goal is <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.bootcampexercises.net/go/Body-of-Fire/"><strong>fast fat loss</strong></a></span> through exercise you must generate the highest metabolic cost possible.  It’s imperative to use full body cardio workouts in order to create an oxygen debt  which, in turn, stimulates your body to burn more calories and fat  (especially after you stop training). Most people just jog on a  treadmill or maybe run a few sprints to burn fat. Think of any typical  cardio exercise and I’ll bet it’s a lower-body exercise (sprints,  jogging, biking, hiking, etc). But there’s a much better, faster way to  see your abs. (Don’t forget, eating the right foods is essential, too.)</p>
<p>While training, the key is to do high intensity cardio that  stimulates your upper- and lower-body muscles in the same workout. If  you just run, no matter how fast, you’re only get half the results you  could be getting if you simply added in an upper body exercise. The  problem is, people don’t equate upper body exercises with cardio so they  don’t know how to supercharge their fat loss.</p>
<p>The best upper body cardio exercise is boxing since it works  virtually every upper body muscle and your core. It has a very high  metabolic cost, too. The cool part about boxing is that you don’t need  to be good at it to see quick results. Just get a pair of 16-ounce  gloves, throw punches and hooks against a bag or in the air, and voila,  you’re on your way to a leaner, fitter body.</p>
<p>Why not skip the gloves and just throw your punches without gloves?  Two reasons. First, those seemingly light 16-ounce gloves make your  muscles work significantly harder. Second, wearing boxing gloves creates  a psychological response akin to combat. Those gloves put your mind in a  state that’s ready for action!</p>
<h2>Sample Fat Burning Full Body Cardio Workouts</h2>
<p>Here is some full body cardio workouts for fat burning that you can do after lifting  weights or on a separate day. I’ve had everyone from Playboy playmates  to professional fighters strip off body fat with this style of training.  It’s awesome. I prefer to do all training outdoors so that’s what I’ll  outline first. Then I’ll show you how to modify the workouts for home or  gyms.</p>
<p><em>Warm-up:</em> start with a few minutes of rope jumping, foam  roller exercises, or mobility drills to prepare your muscles. Once your  body feels ready, it’s time to turn on the juice.</p>
<p><em>Workout (outdoors):</em> sprint for 50 yards, then jog backward  to the starting line. As soon as you return, put on boxing gloves and  throw punches (shadow boxing) for one minute. It’s essential that you  move around while punching, don’t just stand in place. After a minute of  shadow boxing, slip off your gloves and perform another 50 yard sprint  followed by a backward jog to the starting point. Continue with this  sprint/shadow boxing combination for 10 rounds (about 15 minutes’ worth  of work). If you’re in better condition, do it for 15 rounds.</p>

Rest 15 seconds (enough time to slip on boxing gloves)<br />
1C Shadow box for one minute<br />
Rest 30 seconds (enough time to slip off boxing gloves) and repeat 1A-1C 9-14 more times</p>
<p><em>Workout (indoors):</em> sprint on a treadmill or in place for 10  seconds followed by 20 jumping jacks. Next, slip on the gloves and hit a  bag or shadow box for one minute while moving around. Continue with  this sequence for 10-15 rounds.</p>
<p>1A Sprint on a treadmill or in place for 10 seconds<br />
No rest<br />
1B 20 jumping jacks<br />
Rest 15 seconds (enough time to slip on boxing gloves)<br />
1C Hit a bag or shadow box for one minute<br />
Rest 30 seconds (enough time to slip off boxing gloves) and repeat 1A-1C 9-14 more times</p>
<p>There are endless combination&#8217;s of <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a href="http://www.bootcampexercises.net/go/Body-of-Fire/">full body cardio workouts</a></strong></span> that can melt body fat, but the sprinting/boxing combo is an excellent  change of pace. It’s worth mentioning that just a private session or two  with a qualified boxing instructor can make these workouts even more  enjoyable and effective. If you’re going to put in the work, you might  as well do it right. Who knows, honing your boxing skills might come in  handy someday.</p>
